Expertise » Biodiesel
There has been greater awareness on Biodiesel in India in the recent times and significant momentum has been gained for its production especially with a view to boost the rural economy. From a technological standpoint, there is little doubt that Biodiesel can help fuel transition to a more sustainable transportation system. In the coming years, the promise of reduced emissions and the potential to produce fuel crops could generate great overall support for Biodiesel.

Increased utilization of renewable biofuels results in significant microeconomic benefits to both the urban and rural sectors along with achieving the balance of trade. In addition to being a domestically produced, renewable alternative fuel for diesel engines, Biodiesel has positive performance attributes such as increased cetane, high fuel lubricity, and high oxygen content, which can make it a preferred blending stock with future ultra-clean diesel.

Using a blend with on-road diesel fuel, the resulting fuel will reduce carbon monoxide emissions, ozone depleting hydrocarbon emissions, and acid rain-causing sulfur dioxide emissions. Superior lubricity is provided by Biodiesel, even at very low-blend levels. This helps reduce equipment wear and premature breakdown. Additional economic impacts, such as increased employment, increased level of economic activity, and corresponding state and local tax revenue, will also occur.

BIODIESEL @ Tech Perfect
Biodiesel: A fuel comprised of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats.

One of the chief domain expertise of Tech Perfect as Biodiesel technology services provider ensures the production of Biodiesel meeting the international specification requirements as per ASTM D-6751 for Biodiesel, also produces glycerol as a co-product of the desired purity.

Other standards such as IS 15607 (Indian standard), EN 14214 - 2003 (European standard), DIN E-51606 (German standard) are comparable in nature.

Distinctive client focus with an emphasis on precision, cost effectiveness and reliability of design, manufacture and supply of comprehensive biodiesel systems along with process economics know-how and project engineering capabilities enables Tech Perfect to deliver the BEST

Process Overview:
Oil Filtration
Degumming
Oil Heating / Drying
Preparation of Sodium / Potassium methoxide
Transesterification
Decantation (Settling and removal of Glycerol as a co-product)
Washing & Drying of Biodiesel
Quality testing

Overall, Biodiesel is produced by chemically reacting a fat or oil with an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst. The product of the reaction is a mixture of methyl esters, which are known as biodiesel and glycerol which is a high value co-product. The process is known as transesterification.

To sum up:
Currently, India produces only about 22% of its diesel requirements and almost 78% is imported at a huge cost in foreign currency. Also, since India is net importer of vegetable oils / edible oils, these oils cannot be used for the production of Biodiesel. Therefore, it is advisable for our country to use its potential to be a leading world producer of Biodiesel by harvesting the feedstocks like Jatropha Curcas, Pongamia Pinnata and Madhuca Indica plants and making maximum utilization of non-edible oils as a raw material for producing Biodiesel. Biodiesel being an alternative renewable fuel is becoming more readily available for use in blends with conventional diesel fuel for transportation applications.

The technology choice is a function of desired capacity, feedstock choice and availability - type and quality, alcohol recovery and catalyst recovery.

All the indispensable process design activities along with the critical hydraulic calculations are being performed by Tech Perfect including the necessary equipments specifications and sizing, manufacturing and supply of the process equipments so as to make it a complete package on Biodiesel process technology.
